Class Profile
The classes I was assigned by the school were Edexcel 4D and Edexcel 4E class. In the 4D class, there are 12 students and in the 4E class, there are 16 students. All the learners are bilingual whose first language is Sinhala. All of the learners are proficient in speaking English and they do not show any anxiety when speaking. However, their writing and reading skills required to be improved.
Seating Pattern
Prior to start the teaching sessions, I devided the class into three groups with the help of their class teacher according to their proficiency level. I mixed the students with less proficiency level with more proficient students. This method created a supportive environment as the strength of more proficient students provide guidance and support for those with less proficient, fostering a cooperative learning environment. I changed the classroom layout to small zones as the teacher can move from zone to zone to observe the learners' work and provide support. In every English period, they sit in their zones when I signaled them as "to your wisdom buddies".
Syllabus used to create the Lesson Plans
According to the needs analysis which was conducted prior to start the internship emphasizes that the students need to do the Pearson Edexcel iPrimary Curriculum. The lesson plans are aligned with the existing anthology texts in the curriculum namely, iPrimary Fiction Anthology, iPrimary Non-Fiction Anthology, Building Blocks-Grammar, Punctuation and Handwriting and Climb with Corner Stone.
